If you have been in the backwater lately around Bonita Springs, FL you can't help but notice numerous people standing up on a long surf board, paddling around in the surf or the mangroves. It is the latest craze to hit the area and looks like it is here to stay.
Not only does this outdoor water sport provide lots of fun and exercise, it is easy to learn and a great way to work on your tan. The first time Pat and I encountered a paddle boarder we were anchored near one of our favorite fishing holes catching a few mangrove snapper. To my surprise a bikini clad paddler with a Chinese Pug perched on the front of her board came gliding quietly off our starboard side. I was actually speechless to see this dog with his own life jacket enjoying the afternoon adventure. Seconds later here came her partner with an ice chest centered on his board. It certainly is one of the most creative ways we have seen to get to the beach and back by water.
