Irmo, South Carolina

         

     Lovely Irmo, SC has many claims to fame. The "Gateway to Lake Murray" includes pleasant tree-lined streets, unique festivals, and beautiful lake shorelines; not to mention, its well-maintained homes and friendly neighborhoods.

    Tis the season! And what better event to kick start the holiday spirit than the 22nd Festival of Trees benefiting Palmetto Health Children's Hospital.  The weekend event is free to the public, and will take place on November 19-20 at the Village at Sandhill, located at Two Notch and Clemson roads in Northeast Columbia.

   This year's Festival of Trees will feature over 120 items, including exquisitely decorated trees, wreaths, tabletop trees, and framed artwork lovingly created by the children at the Children's Hospital. Every item will be up for bid on Saturday, Nov. 19 (10 A.M.-8 P.M.) and on Sunday, Nov. 20 (12 P.M.-4 P.M.).

   Wreaths will be located in the former Talbots store across the street from Panera Bread, and trees and tabletop trees will be in the Village at Sandhill Party Room, across from Brixx Wood Fired Pizza.

  There will a variety of entertainment throughout the weekend festival, including Santa, who will be in the same location with the wreaths. The tree room will include a coloring station where children can write letters to Santa and color in holiday coloring books. Musical entertainment, dancers, mascots, magicians, and more can be found at the Festival of Trees.  

   The Festival of Trees is a major annual fundraising event for Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital, South Carolina’s first and only freestanding children’s hospital. If you have not used the Palmetto Health Children's Hospital, chances are, you know someone who has. The children's hospital treats more than 80,000 sick and injured children in South Carolina annually in its inpatient and outpatient facilities.     The Lexington County, SC Town of South Congaree offers small town rural living, along with one of South Carolina's best-kept secrets: a real, live, professional rodeo that ranks in the overall rodeo circuit scores of the participants right along with the Colorado, Texas, and all those other "cowboy state" events.

      The Congaree Western Weekend and Festival was established in 1990 and usually takes place in April drawing a crowd of about 30,000 people. It continues through the town of Pine Ridge and the outskirts of South Congaree and Gaston. The road ends 16 pleasant miles later in Pelion, SC where it begins a new life as Old Columbia Road.

   Established neighborhoods and farm houses reside next to innovative condominiums and newly-developed subdivision as more and more builders and home owners recognize the value of the picturesque and conveniently located acreage.
