Though many people feel that there is no hockey or ice skating rinks in Georgia now that the NHL Thrashers are gone, this is simply NOT true.  Hockey and figure skating are still very much alive and I would like to tell you about it.  Many people actually call me to search homes based on the ice skating rinks.

Why you ask?  Well if you are asking, you may not actually know about the passion and involvement that are part of these two sports.  It actually identifies you in many cases.  It becomes a lifestyle.  Sure, I know many sports claim the same and perhaps they do but I can only speak of the involvement I have had in my many years in the ice skating rinks.

I did not even attend my first hockey game until I was nearly 40 and figure skating?  Yeah it was nice but not something we did living in sunny Miami, FL but that was sure to change.  Once our kids had a party at one of the local ice skating rinks, our life would change forever.  Our son now plays hockey for the Atlanta Fire and our daughter is a figure skating director at Trump Lasker Rink in New York.  We even owned our own rink in Daytona for some time.   Not an investment I would recommend though the time spent there was priceless.

The other day, sitting in my home office, the phone rang and my assistant/wife answered the phone as she normally does.  However, this call caught her somewhat by surprise.

"Hi Debbie!" Exclaimed the voice on the other end.  How are you and Steve?

This is the beginning of how my internet presence made me money this week with a past client!

As Debbie nudged me to listen and placed the call on speaker, she said, "Great! And how are you?", completely clueless as to who she was speaking to...as I also shrugged my shoulders not knowing who this was either..

"I see you are still in real estate and are now with Keller Williams and in Atlanta!  That's great!  I was so glad I was able to "google" you and get your number!"  "Sure we are too....ummmm....."

"You guys are the only Realtors I would suggest to my friend that is looking to invest here in Miami so I googled you and realized you are in Atlanta but want to make sure that if it isn't you he uses, that he will at least use someone you refer."

By this time, we were grateful but clueless so Debbie said, " Hang on, Steve would love to chat more with you!"  So she passed the phone to me which gave the client the opportunity to say, "Hi Steve, this is Jonathan, remember me?  You sold me the house that I am STILL in in Miami and I was so pleased with your services that I wanted my friend to also have the same experience."

This client, Jonathan, I sold a home to "pre-internet" days and have since unfortunately lost much of that database.  It turns out that I remained present in his memory as did our VIP real estate service. It was so awesome to hear these comments.    By this time, I had placed Jonathan and could not believe that he had been able to track me down though I was thrilled that he had which is how my internet presence made me money this week with a past client!
