Altamont is a small village within the town of Guilderland, New York located at the base of the Helderberg escarpment.
It has a population of about 1700 based on the 2010 censis. The town features a great fair each August and hosts numerous other events at the site including old car shows and the "Scottish Games" It has a central park with a gazabo, where art exibitions, music and craft shows are scheduled during the summer months. Adjacent to the park is the post office, bank, bagel shop , art store and a new high end restaurent "Mio-Vino". Additionally, just off the park is a farmers market, which features local fresh vegtables picked daily.
Two miles from town is "Orchard Creek Golf Course". This course designed by Paul Cowley in 1997 features 18 holes layed out in a former apple orchard. The course is public and has great views of the Helderberg Escarpment. Golf digest has rated it as one of the top 15 Public olf Courses in New York State. The club house is being expanded at this time and has a wonderful reasturant "The Cider House Restaurant" who's chef is a graduate of the "Culinary Institute of America"; the Danish baby back ribs with an apple-infused BBQ sauce are to die for.
